On 15th September, 2024, Vikalp organized Hindi Diwas celebration to highlight the importance of the Hindi language in Indian culture. Held in D-107, the event was attended by around 52 students. The program started with a volunteer explaining the significance of Hindi Diwas. The speaker shared that this day marks the adoption of Hindi as one of India’s official languages on 14th September, 1949. The students learned how Hindi plays a key role in connecting different regions and communities across the country.
To deepen their knowledge, a documentary was shown, tracing the history of Hindi. It explored the language’s roots in ancient times and its journey to becoming the modern Hindi we know today. The documentary also touched on the role of Hindi in uniting the country and preserving its cultural identity.
Adding to the event, a student from Vikalp recited a poem in Hindi. A second documentary followed, emphasizing the need to celebrate Hindi not just on this day but throughout the year. It highlighted the importance of preserving the language while also embracing multilingualism. The documentary encouraged the students to view Hindi as an essential part of India’s identity.
The volunteer also shared stories from India’s independence movement, showing how Hindi was used as a common language by freedom fighters to communicate and unite people from different regions. The event concluded with the students chanting the patriotic slogan, “Hindi hain hum, Vatan Hai Hindustan Humara.” This brought a strong sense of pride and unity to the celebration, leaving the students with a renewed appreciation for the Hindi language.
Overall, the Hindi Diwas celebration at Vikalp was a success, instilling a deeper understanding and respect for Hindi among the students.
